Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and vocalist whose dramatic varied performances earned her the acclaim of fans across a range of categories ranging from period dramas to thrillers and action. Johansson, the daughter of filmmaker and architect, grew up in New York City. Her twin brother Hunter were one of the youngest four siblings. The young actress began her interest in acting at a young age, and began auditioning for commercials at the age of seven. Then she began her studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and later was a student at the Professional Children's School in Manhattan to further hone her craft. In Off-Broadway's play Sophistry she performed with Ethan Hawke at age 8 and then in North, directed by Rob Reiner in 1994 she began her film debut. Johansson came next to the screen on screen in Just Cause (1996), however the film Manny & Lo 1996 that provided her with a breakthrough. It is a story about two young girls that are wandering off. She next earned critical appreciation for her portrayal of an adolescent who suffers an unforgiving accident on screen in The Horse Whisperer (1998) as well as further recognition as the unpopular teen Rebecca In Ghost World (2001).
